Even though Sunset is a small City and has Police Officers on duty 24 hours a day, we can't be everywhere at once. This means we need your help. We need all citizens to watch what goes on in their neighborhoods and call when they see suspicious things happening. Please call at the time it is happening because it is easier for us to deal with the problem then than it is a day later. Remember, what you may think is nothing might be a key to use solving a crime.

Now that spring is here, we will be enforcing the weed and junk ordinance. Please look around your home and property and keep them clean. This will be a benefit to all residents in keeping the property values up. If you have received a warning in the past, you might not receive another warning before you are cited. Vehicles that have not been registered for more than 30 days or are dismantled or abandoned are included in this ordinance. Fines for violating this ordinance range from $0 to $1,000.

Watch for our upcoming DARE auction this summer during the Fun Days celebration. All money raised will be donated to the Police Department DARE program for all three of our elementary schools. If you would like to make a donation of a new or slightly used item for this auction, please contact the Police Department at 825-1620.

The Sunset Police Department recently received a grant from Homeland Security to purchase new bullet proof vests for all the officers. The Susnet Police Department is always searching for and applying for grants to purchase equipment, pay for personnel or anything else that might benefit the City and keep from passing costs on to the citizens. In the past we have received grant money to pay for a camera for the patrol cars and we have had a full-time officer's wages paid for three years by a Federal grant. We have received other equpment such as digital cameras, alcohol testing equipment, radar guns and more.
